Wiiiiiiiii!

The other day (Valentines Day no less), Lindsey brought home a new Nintendo Wii.

In addition to the bundled Wii Sports, she also got Wii Play, which comes bundled with a second wiimote and includes what Tommy calls The Balloon game, e.g. Target Shooting.  You “shoot” balloons and targets on the screen them with the wiimote.  We can’t play it enough — all three of us.

I just got done playing wii boxing, and it was the first time I have ever worked up a sweat playing video games.  Well…almost.

Earlier this week I was going to post about the home gym we’ve set up downstairs, but now I think we can probably toss all that stuff in favor of the wii.  I had jokingly thought we might get a good workout from playing, but it turns out people are doing just that — even losing weight!

I was also very impressed with the internet integration.  The Opera web browser works surprisingly well on our ancient 27″ CRT tv.  I can’t wait to get some web-aware games.

Don’t even get me started on the virtual console, or the fact that they built an entire gamecube into the top of the console for backwards compatibility with GC games.  This thing is great!

  1. Apparently no one remembers the old NES running pad. Way before Dance Dance Revolution, it had two foot pads- corresponding to the A and B buttons on the NES controller. You could play all sorts of things, like Olympics- long jump, hurdles, sprints.

I never had one, but Sam Hack (if you remember him) did and we would play it at his house after grade school.

    Wiiiiiiiiiii

  2. Yes. The Power Pad. We have one one those for our NES. Lindsey is obsessed with it — I never had one growing up, but apparently she did. I think the only game we have for it is Track and Field.

  3. I never had one, but always wanted one. We picked ours up at a rummage sale. It’s a good thing that they had included the powerpad or doug would have been in trouble for buying a console that we already had (even though the rummage one worked better than the one we already had)

  4. congrats on your new wee….oh, I mean, Wii…..
