I <3 eMusic

eMusic is my new favorite online music store of choice.  I really love it.  Wired also seems to like them, and after hearing them pimped many times on dl.tv, I decided to sign up.  I love it — did I mention that already?

They don’t have nearly the amount of music that the iTunes Store has, but they do offer some advantages:

  • Non-DRMed, iPod-compatible music with album art
  • Once you have purchased a song, you can download it again as many times as you want.
  • It’s Linux-friendly.  There are a few eMusic download managers available for Linux (I’ve been very happy with EMusicJ).
  • Cheap music.  The monthly plan I’m on has tracks at $0.25 each (~$10 per month for 40 songs)
  • No app necessary — I can do it all from a browser (Though the download manager is handy, it’s not strictly necessary).
They
have a ton of jazz, classical, and indie music.  They also have a great
system for recommendations and reviews.  And it’s not a subscription
music service — once you buy the tracks, they’re yours.

If only there were an eVideo too…
