Friday evening geek-out
While in Omaha last Friday for the opera, Lindsey and I stopped at CompUSA. The Mac guy (there seems to be only one, and he’s always there when we visit) showed me spotlight. Holy sweet search speed. It certainly blew my mind, but I sort of forgot about it until Monday morning when I was looking for a specific file on my PC at work, and the Windows search interface made me gnaw my own foot off in agony. It was so slow in comparison I decided to install Google Desktop Search. It’s no spotlight, but it’s definitely a step up. I particularly like the plugins.
Back to last Friday. Not finding anything at CompUSA, L found the mp3 player of her dreams at Best Buy. Read more about it here. It is a pretty nifty player, and it’s hella small, but now we have two competing mp3 players in the house and subscribe to competing incompatible online music services. It’s a match made in heaven.
