Tech Christmas
Santa brought us DSL.
Our DSL modem and other hardware arrived christmas eve. Suffice it to say that msn is teh suck, and qwestnet is the new hotness. The router/modem they gave us is nicer than the D-Link router we had been using. OK, so being better than D-Link isn’t too hard.
In the continuing saga of Dish Network, the installer guys finally showed up on the 23rd of December (our original install date was November 18th) and told us we needed a post in our back yard to hold the dish because we had too many trees. They then told me I had to install it myself and that they wouldn’t help. Then they left. Total visit time = 5 minutes. They took 5 weeks to tell me I had to install a post in my yard and they would come back in a month. It was like when the 1541 overheated and fried my Autoduel character. Then we called Ryan and the guys at Williams. In less than a week they had us hooked up, and our back yard remains post-free. Our dish receiver has a built-in DVR which we have been filling with televisual goodness.
Reaching even further in the past, we got a geforceFX for the desktop box earlier in December. Upgrading from our withered voodoo4 breathed enough new life into the old machine to allow me to play Freelancer, NWN, UT2K3, and GTA3.
L got me an xbox for christmas, and Tommy got me Splinter cell. Unfortunately, the xbox came with tetris and I have had to wait in line to actually play games on said xbox. Hopefully 2004 will contain some modding.
I got L some rocks and metal. She is very happy with them.
Tommy got many presents, but the one that sticks out the most is The Cat in the Hat. His Seuss library is ever-growing and this addition is particularly special. Hopefully he will never see the movie.
So that is that.
